Madras Day

Madras Day is a day of celebrations organised in the city of Madras (Chennai), the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is celebrated on 22 August every year, and is named after the city. It commemorates the founding of the modern city by establishing Fort St George on a small piece of land acquired from the last King of Chandragiri in 1639 by the British East India Company. The celebrations include several events organised including citizens and students and lasts for a week

ITM Chennai celebrated Madras Day on August 21st. The students and staff dressed in the  traditional attire , in Kanjeevarams and veshtis. A hut was put up at the entrance of the Sipcot complex, where ITM campus is located. Sipcot has around 100 companies within. ITM had organized a free bullock cart ride for the employees who were coming in to work. This was a novelty for all .The age old sweets like Kamarkattu and neer mor (thin buttermilk) were sold like hot cakes.

A quiz was organized where all participants participated enthusiastically.

Here is what one employee of CTS had to say:

“Its Friday and one cannot expect such a great and happening start to the day. Never expected I will ever have a bullock cart ride to the office but ITM students did it for me. They were so full of energy and enthusiasm that I wasn't able to ignore their request. For a moment I was hesitant but at the same time I was thinking to go for the crazy ride. I'm really thankful to them for giving me an exhilarating experience that I will cherish for a long time.

"ITM students have the zeal to make their college take pride of them"
